Today i’m going to talk about a cocktail of one of the fathers of the tiki drinks: Victor Bergeron, also known as Trader Vic.
I chugged this drink for the first time at Tahití Bar in Barcelona and I loved it. Searching in my cocktail books, I found the recipe on Beachbum Berry Remixed and in Trader Vic’s Bartender Guide Revised, but I prefer the Berrys’ book recipe which used passion fruit syrup instead of passion fruit nectar of the Vic’s book.
In the actual market we can find a lot of new and premium mixers for our drinks, and if we think in rum, the most popular mixer in which we think is cola. The most popular brand of cola used in the Rum&Cola, of course is Coke (Coca-Cola in Spain), but I llove to try new brands and give the opportunity to different flavours. We never know where we can find a better product!!!
Searching something to drink in my small library of tiki drinks books, I took the Beachbum Berry Remixed of the master Jeff Berry, the real bible of tiki recipes. I was looking for a drink with ginger beer, because I had a bottle of Fentiman’s opened and I want to finish it…
The Corn & Oil is one of my favourite rummy drinks. It’s a typical Bajan drink made with rum, falernum, bitters and fresh lime juice, but the proportions of each and the exact ingredients are not clear, it has many variations. It’s a bit like a Ti’ Punch…you could do it at your taste (“Chacun prépare sa propre mort”).
In the practice session we first taste the rums neat, and later we taste how it works in some cocktails.
The past Sunday 18th of May in The Cocktail Shop in Barcelona, the Authentic Caribbean Rum Marque and the WIRSPA give us a formation about his Marque and rums. The formation was imparted by the spanish bartender Alberto Pizarro, and this Certification Programme has the following content:

In tiki drinks, some syrups are often used. Some of these are hard to find in a lot of places of the world, and others that can’t offer the same quality and flavor in their commercial versions. For that reason, I started to do it at home, and in this blog i’ll write some of these recipes. Today I’m going to talk about the cinnamon syrup.
