Yes, this is really a Dark & Stormy, the Bermuda’s national drink…but because of the trademark of this recipe by Gosling’s, if we want to call it Dark & Stormy we have to make it with Gosling’s Black Seal Rum and Gosling’s Stormy Ginger Beer…and what happens if this rum or this ginger beer dislikes us?Or if we prefer another rums or ginger beer brands? The thing what happens is what I call The Perfect Storm: The Dark & Stormy for people who wants to make the things on their way.
I taste some rums which I think that works well on it…it depends on your taste…the only condition is that the rum has to be a dark rum or a navy style rum…you could use Kraken, Cruzan Blackstrap, Myers’s Original Dark. I used this three rums and works well, but I also think that more other rums could work well on it: OVD Demerara, Smith&Cross, Wood’s 100, Pusser’s, Lost Spirits Navy Style Rum,…on this recipe you are allowed to do what you want…you are free!!!
About the ginger beer is the same thing…I normally use Fentiman’s or Fever Tree…but there’s so many brands of ginger beer in the world, so that, use your favorite ginger beer.
At this time I used Kraken and Fentiman’s.
- 2½ oz The Kraken Black Spiced Rum
- 1 bottle of Fentiman's Ginger Beer
- Half lime
- Candied Ginger
- Add ice in a double old fashioned glass.
- Cut the half lime in 3 wedges and squeeze it inside the glass.
- Put the squeezed lime wedges inside the glass.
- Add the rum and stir.
- Add the ginger beer and stir.
- Garnish with candied ginger speared in a bamboo stick.
